Indian T20 League 2023: 5 players who could trigger bidding war in mini-auction

The Indian T20 League 2023 mini-auction is all set to take place in December, in Kochi and the likes of Sam Curran and Ben Stokes are expected to attract the highest bids. With the franchises like Chennai and Hyderabad in the race to find the perfect replacement for captaincy, the upcoming auction is one to watch out for. 

Although teams do not have many options to work out, the players who have entered the auction pool make things interesting and there are many players who might end up breaking records by becoming the highest bid in history. 

As things stand, let us take a look at five players who could trigger the bidding war in the Indian T20 League. 

5) Mayank Agarwal

The Punjab franchise released Mayank Agarwal, the player who led the team in the previous edition of the Indian T20 League. The right-handed batter will now enter the auction and has all it takes to trigger the bidding war. 

With the ability to lead a side and also capitalize on the powerplay as an opener, Agarwal could well be a perfect buy for a franchise that is hoping to rope in an Indian opener from the Indian T20 League 2023 mini-auction.

4) Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes might as well enter the auction and eventually trigger the bidding war in the upcoming mini-auction. As things stand, the Chennai franchise are highly likely to rope in the player, given that they are in the hunt to find the perfect replacement for MS Dhoni. 

To add more, the former Indian captain might call it a time in all forms of cricket post the conclusion of the Indian T20 League 2023 and it remains to see if he would carry on with his stint with the franchise in some capacity. Stokes, the current Test captain of England team, might as well attract the highest bid in the auction. 

3) James Neesham

The New Zealand allrounder is all set to take the auction stage by storm as he is one of the best allrounders when it comes to the shortest format of the game. With allrounders at high stakes in the tournament, franchises might fight among themselves to rope in James Neesham.

Concerning his poor run, the Black Caps star has not been at his very best of late and this might come as a concern for the franchises. Although, it is highly likely that his potential to single-handedly destroy the opponent teams might come as a takeaway for the teams.

2) Cameron Green

Cameron Green might get his first Indian T20 League contract in the upcoming mini-auction and in style, as his prowess could trigger a bidding war amongst all teams, given that the player has the ability to go all out on his given day. 

The Australian allrounder was added to the 20-20 World Cup 2022 squad at the last moment and much to the stupefaction of the Australian fans, Green fared well for the Kangaroos in the multinational tournament.

Sam Curran had a phenomenal outing in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 and eventually, England ended up as the champions of the showpiece event. With 13 wickets, Curran ended up as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. 

As things stand, the allrounder is all set to enter the Indian T20 League auction and could eventually trigger a bidding war. With teams looking for perfect allrounders, Curran could eventually end up attracting the highest bid.
