Indian T20 League 2022: Star Mumbai batter to miss team’s opening clash against Delhi

Published on

Suryakumar Yadav returned to Mumbai in the Indian T20 League in 2018 for his second stint with the franchise. Since then, he has been an important part of the team’s middle order.

He has improved his batting significantly in the last few seasons. Special mention must be made about how his strike rate has skyrocketed in the last two seasons. Along with this, he has started playing bigger and more impactful knocks in this duration.

The star batsman is now a very important piece in Mumbai’s batting puzzle. But according to the latest reports, he may miss the first match of Mumbai in the Indian T20 League 2022 against Delhi as he suffered a hairline fracture on his thumb in the T20 series against West Indies, which even led him to miss the series against Sri Lanka. It seems that he has still not recovered from this and therefore may not be a part of Mumbai’s final eleven in their first match.

According to a BCCI official, who chose to stay anonymous, “Surya is currently at the NCS doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair. So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by a board’s medical team to not risk playing the opener.”

The Mumbai management would not want to risk aggravating his injury and instead rest him in their season opener. Mumbai will be playing Rajasthan in their second match on April 2, and Yadav is expected to be fit and ready by then.
