Indian T20 League 2022: Punjab vs Mumbai – Match 23 – Preview, Playing XIs, Pitch Report & Updates

Both teams have had contrasting seasons so far.

Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings

Punjab and Mumbai will face each other at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on April 13, 2022. Both teams are coming off on the back of a defeat in their last respective matches. Punjab lost to Gujarat in a last-ball thriller while Mumbai was beaten by Bangalore handsomely. Both teams will be looking forward to getting back to winning ways. Talking about their performances, the Men in Red and Gold have won two games and lost as many matches. On the other hand, the Men In Blue have lost all their four games.

Team News

Punjab:

Punjab lost to Gujarat after Rahul Tewatia did an MS Dhoni against them. Tewatia hit two sixes when his side needed 12 runs off two balls. The batters have been doing well in the tournament so far. The team’s biggest weakness is their bowling attack, which has been leaking runs at an economy of more than nine on average. They would like their bowlers to put up an improved performance against the five-time winners, who is mainly dependent on Suryakumar Yadav’s batting. Expect them to field the same playing XI which featured in the last game.

Key Players:

Liam Livingstone - The hard-hitter of the cricket ball from England has been in a magnificent form in the last couple of games with two back-to-back fifties. He might come good again but it will be interesting to see how he shapes up against Jasprit Bumrah.

Vaibhav Arora - The medium pacer had a great debut with two wickets against Chennai and troubled the batters but struggled in the next game.  He might do well against a fickle batting line-up of Mumbai.

Probable XI: Mayank Agarwal (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, Odean Smith, Shahrukh Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh, Vaibhav Arora

Mumbai: The team has had one of the worst possible starts in their history of the Indian T20 League. Notably, they have been outplayed by the oppositions in all the games played so far. Their batting is largely dependent on Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.

Ishan Kishan has also put up some good contributions for the team. Talking about their bowling, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, everyone has struggled so far and has conceded more than nine runs per over collectively. However, given the reputation of the team, expect them to make no changes in their playing XI.

Key Players:

Suryakumar Yadav - After making his come back from injury, the right-hander has scored two back-to-back fifties. He might carry on with his form against a relatively weak bowling attack.

Jasprit Bumrah - The spearhead of the bowling attack is the only one who looked like picking wickets in the team. Expect him to do well on Wednesday.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Ramandeep Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, Jasprit Bumrah, M Ashwin, Basil Thampi
