Indian T20 League 2022: Mumbai vs Rajasthan – Match 9 – Preview, Playing XIs, Pitch Report & Updates

Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals

Mumbai and Rajasthan will lock horns at the D.Y. Patil Stadium on April 2 in the 9th match of the Indian T20 League. Both teams had a contrasting start to their campaigns in the ongoing season. The five-time winners lost their opening game against Delhi, notably from a winning position. On the other hand, the 2008 winners completely dominated Hyderabad in their opening game. The Rohit Sharma-led side would like to bounce back in the 15th season while the Sanju Samson-led side would like to build on the winning momentum.

Team News

Mumbai: The team has once again lost their opening game of the season, a tradition being followed by the team, unwillingly though, since 2013. In this game, they would like to make two changes. Expect Daniel Sams to be replaced by Riley Meredith. Sams had a horrendous day with the ball against Delhi as he conceded 57 runs. Meredith might replace him as the former can crank a high pace around 150 k/mph. Another change could be Suryakumar Yadav, who has recovered from the hairline fracture. He will replace Anmolpreet Singh, who could only score eight runs.

Key Players:

Jasprit Bumrah – The pace spearhead had a forgettable game against Delhi. He conceded 43 runs in 3.2 overs which was below his reputation. Expect him to bounce back as it is hard to keep him away from the game.

Murugan Ashwin – The leg-spinner was one of the positives from the Mumbai loss. He took two wickets and was miserly, conceding only 14 runs in four runs

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Surakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Riley Meredith, M Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Basil Thampi, Tymal Mills

Rajasthan: The team had a dream start to the tournament against Hyderabad. They dominated in all three departments of the game. With the bat, the 2008 winners amassed 210/6. With the ball, they completely decimated Hyderabad as the latter was restricted at 149/7. However, they need to make a forced change as Nathan Coulter Nile got injured in the last over of the game. He might be replaced by Obed McCoy, who is a death overs specialist.

Key Players:

Sanju Samson – The skipper of the Rajasthan team scored an explosive 55 in the first game. Expect him to lead the team from the front as he did in the last season with more than 400 runs.

Trent Boult – The former Mumbai player and now a Rajasthan team member is expected to do well against his old mates as he may know the weaknesses of some of the opposition batters such as Rohit Sharma, Surykumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Kieron Pollard.

Probable XI: Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Obed McCoy, Trent Boult, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna

Match Details

Venue: D.Y. Patil Stadium, Mumbai

Time: 03:30 PM IST

Live Telecast: Star Sports Network and Disney+Hotstar

Pitch Report: The last game on the venue between Bangalore and Kolkata produced a low-scoring thriller. Pacers from both sides enjoyed bowling with the new ball. However, that game was played at night when the temperatures were down. Expect different pitch conditions in this game as it will be under the scorching heat. It might be possible that the spinners enjoy bowling due to dry conditions.
