Mumbai and Hyderabad played each other at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Orange Army needed to win the game to stay in the playoffs race. On the other hand, the Blue Brigade was looking to salvage some pride after a miserable season. After winning the toss, the five-time winners chose to bowl first on a wicket that looked slow.

However, after the wicket of Abhishek Sharma in the third over, the Hyderabad batters made it look like the wicket that was very well curated for the strokeplay. The likes of Rahul Tripathi, Priyam Garg, and Nicholas Pooran played some blistering knocks. Tripathi score a 44-ball 76 while Pooran and Garg scored 22-ball 38 and 26-ball 42 respectively. However, their innings couldn’t take the team past the 200-runs mark.

In the last three overs, they scored only 20 runs and lost three wickets, ending with 193/6. For Mumbai,  Ramandeep Singh took three wickets while Daniel Sams, Riley Meredith, and Jasprit Bumrah took one each. Mayank Markande, who played his first game of the season, and Sanjay Yadav, who made his debut, proved costly as they gave away runs at more than 10 per over.

In reply, Mumbai got off to a great start as skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan stitched a partnership of 95 runs. This was a great launching pad for the next batters to come. Meanwhile, the duo missed on their half-centuries and got out in the space of five balls. This triggered a mini-collapse as the team went from 95/0 in 11th over to 144/5 in 17th over. After this, Tim David took the attack on T. Natarajan, one of the best death overs bowlers in the competition.

David hit four sixes in Natarajan’s over to take the equation from 45 needed off 18 to 19 needed off 13 balls. However, the right-hander was run out on the last ball of the over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a wicket maiden in the penultimate over of the game which pretty much decided the game for his side. Ramandeep Singh took the team close but could not avoid the three-run loss. With this loss, Mumbai has made a record of losing 10 games in a season.
