The Bangalore-based franchise’s wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik has been reprimanded for breaching the Indian T20 League code of conduct. Karthik has been found breaching the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3. Under the Article, the use of any foul language which is audible to spectators or can be heard in the stump microphone is a punishable offence. This includes swearing at someone else or themselves.

“Article 2.3 covers the use of words commonly known and understood to be offensive, obscene and/or profane (in any language) and which can be heard by the spectators and/or the viewing public whether by way of the stump-microphone or otherwise. This conduct may include, for example, swearing in frustration at one’s own play or fortune,” Level 1 Offence 2.3 of the Indian T20 League states.

For the context, the incident happened during the Eliminator game of the Indian T20 League 2022 between Bangalore and Lucknow in Kolkata. During the last over of Bangalore, the Tamil Nadu player tried to play a short ball against a bouncer bowled by Avesh Khan outside the off-stump. The wicketkeeper batter missed the ball. After this, the 36-year-old was clearly heard swearing at himself by the stump microphone.

Thus, the punishment was handed over to the Tamil Nadu cricketer a few hours ahead of Qualifier 2 game against Rajasthan. The team had won the Eliminator game by 14 runs. The match against Rajasthan will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 27. Bangalore will be looking to qualify for the grand final for the first time since 2016.

On the other hand, the Pink Brigade haven’t played the final since winning the inaugural title in 2008. Both teams played each other two times during the league stage where things were even-steven. The winner of the team will play Gujarat in the final at the same venue on May 29. Both teams will be looking to go full throttle against each other in the virtual semifinal. Thus, this game promises to be an absolute cracker of a contest.
