Delhi and Lucknow played against each other in the 45th match of the Indian T20 League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. After winning the toss, KL Rahul and Co. decided to bat first and notched a mammoth score of 195/3. The likes of Quinton de Kock, skipper KL Rahul, and Deepak Hooda contributed significantly to the mountain total. Quinton de Kock played a short little cameo of 13-ball 23, while Hooda scored 52 off 34.

On the other hand, KL Rahul played conservatively initially but changed gears in the latter half of the innings. He finished with 77 off 51 balls at a strike rate of 150.98, thanks to his hard-hitting in the end overs.

Marcus Stoinis, who is the designated finisher with the bat, scored an unbeaten 16-ball 17. As for Delhi, apart from Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel, other the bowlers had a forgettable outing. Thakur took all three wickets of the innings while Patel gave only 25 runs in his quota of four overs.

In reply, the 2020 finalists lost their in-form openers, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner inside three overs. At 13/2, the team looked in deep trouble. However, the likes of Mitchell Marsh and skipper Rishabh Pant counter-attacked and put the pressure back on to the opposition.

They stitched a partnership of 60 runs in just 4 overs, with Marsh scoring 37 off 20 including three fours and as many sixes. On the other hand, Pant scored 44 off 30, including seven fours and a six. Both batters returned to form and looked like winning the game for their team but got out at crucial stages. Delhi kept the required run rate in check but wickets kept falling at regular intervals.

Rovman Powell scored 35 off 21 and tried to take the team as close to the target as possible. However, he too got out on the first ball of the 17th over, with Delhi needing 50 runs in 23 balls. At that stage, it looked like the game was over for Delhi. However, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav kept scoring boundaries and took the team as close to the total as possible.

Axar Patel scored an unbeaten 42 off 22 balls, including three sixes and a four while Kuldeep Yadav scored an unbeaten 16 off eight balls with a six and a four. However, their effort couldn’t win the game for the team as they fell 7 runs short of the target.
