Chennai and Delhi will face each other at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Mumbai on May 8. Both teams will be playing each other for the first time this season. Talking about their performances, the 2020 finalists are placed in the fifth spot in the points table with five wins in 10 games. On the other hand, the defending champions are in the eighth spot with only three wins in 10 games. Both teams would be looking to put together a good performance on Sunday.

Team News

Chennai: The four-time winners have lost seven games and are more or less, eliminated from the tournament. However, they can reach the playoffs if they win their remaining games, and hope for other results to go in their favour. Thus, their chances of making it to the top four are very bleak. They have struggled in the pace-bowling department. Another area of concern has been their middle-order batting. Thus, they would look to have improved performances, especially in these areas. Dwayne Bravo might be available for this game.

Key Players:

Devon Conway: Since his return to the playing XI in the game against Hyderabad, he has scored two back-to-back fifties. The left-hander has shown that he shouldn’t have been left out after the first match. He could be an important player for the team during their game against Delhi.

Maheesh Theekshana: The mystery spinner has been a strike bowler for the team in yellow. He has been one of the shining stars in the team’s dismal run in the season. He could be the key to success in the next game.

Probable XI: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Dwayne Bravo/Dwaine Pretorius, Maheesh Theekshana, Simarjeet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary

Team News

Delhi: The team is coming off a win against Hyderabad. In that game, their batting clicked for the first time in many games. Their first choice opener, Prithvi Shaw, missed the game due to an injury. However, he is expected to be fit for this game, according to assistant coach Shane Watson. It will be interesting to see if Axar Patel, who also missed out due to injury, will play or not

Key Players:

David Warner: The left-hander scored an unbeaten 92 against his former team in the last game. He has been superb with the bat since joining the team in the middle of the tournament. The Aussie could prove to be a match-winner in the next game as well.

Kuldeep Yadav: The wrist-spinner has been the second-highest wicket-taker in the league with 18 scalps to his name. He hasn’t been easy to score against, and has picked important wickets for the team. Hence, he too could do well in the next game

Probable XI: David Warner, Prithvi Shaw/Mandeep Singh, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel/Ripal Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed

Pitch Report: The pitch is getting slower with every game played at the venue. Only the batter who gets their eye in can hit runs with ease. Otherwise, new batters have found it tough. Both teams might look to win the toss and bat first.
