Bangalore and Lucknow faced each other in the 31st game of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The KL Rahul-led side won the toss and elected to field first. The decision immediately paid dividends with Dushmantha Chameera taking two wickets in the first over. Chameera dismissed Anuj Rawat (4) and Virat Kohli (0) on the fifth and sixth ball respectively.

Glenn Maxwell (23 off 11) came in and played some shots to increase the scoring rate of the team. At the team score of 44, he was caught by Jason Holder off Krunal Pandya. Suyash Prabhudesai (10) then became the first victim of Holder. At 62/4, the team was struggling but the likes of skipper Faf du Plessis and Shahbaz Ahmed (26) stitched a partnership of 70 runs to help the team recover from a desperate situation.

Ahmed was run out by the combination of KL Rahul and Holder, with the score reading 138 runs. Du Plessis (96 off 64) missed out on his hundred as he was caught by Marcus Stoinis off Holder on the penultimate ball of the innings. In form, Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 13 off eight balls and the team reached 181/6.

In reply, the Men In Mint Green lost the wicket of Quinton de Kock (3), who was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood in the third over, with the score reading 17/1. Manish Pandey (6) was caught by Harshal Patel off Hazlewood at a team score of 33/2. In form Rahul scored 30 off 24 balls before he was caught behind by Karthik off Harshal Patel.

Deepak Hooda (13), who has hit two fifties early in the season, was caught by Prabhudesai off Mohammed Siraj. Krunal Pandya (42 off 28) played a cameo but was caught by Shahbaz Ahmed off Maxwell, with the score reading 108/5. Ayush Badoni (13) and Marcus Stoinis (24) became the third and fourth victims of Josh Hazlewood. The team, in the end, were restricted to 163/8, losing the game by 18 runs.
