IND vs WI: Virat Kohli’s spectacular catch to dismiss dangerous Odean Smith: Watch

Virat Kohli

Former India skipper Virat Kohli’s catch of Odean Smith could well be called the defining moment of the second ODI between India and West Indies where the hosts went on to win the game by 44 runs and took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in three-match series. The Nicholas Pooran-led side won the toss and chose to field first. They had a great start as India was tottering at 43/3 at one stage.

Suryakumar Yadav (64) and KL Rahul (49) stitched a partnership of 90 runs before Rahul was run out. Yadav then joined hands with Washington Sundar (24) and added 43 runs. After this partnership was broken with Yadav’s wicket, the team could not stitch any big partnership as the Men In Blue were restricted to 237/9.

In reply, the Men In Maroon lost five wickets for 76 runs. Shamarh Brooks (44) and Akeal Hosein had a partnership of 41 runs before Brooks became the first ODI wicket for Deepak Hooda. Hosein and Fabian Allen then added 42 runs for the seventh wicket. At 159/8, Odean Smith came to the crease and played an innings of 24 runs which kept the team in the game. However, on the last ball of the 45th over, Smith was caught on the boundary by Virat Kohli which ended the winning hopes of the West Indies.

The Indian team has never lost an ODI series against the West Indies after 2006. In 2006, the Rahul Dravid-led side had lost the five-match series by 4-1 against the Brian Lara-led team.
