IND vs WI: Virat Kohli joins elite club, becomes fifth Indian to do so

Former India skipper Virat Kohli became the fifth Indian player to play 100 ODIs at home on February 9 against West Indies. Kohli joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (164), MS Dhoni (127), Mohammad Azharuddin (113), and Yuvraj Singh (108) in the list of Indian players to play more than 100 games at home.

Another common thing among these players apart from Yuvraj Singh is that all these players have led the team for a long time. Dhoni (200) has captained the most among the four players. The next best is Azharuddin, with 174 games. Tendulkar has led the team in 74 games while Kohli has led the team in 95 games.

Meanwhile, in Kohli’s 100th ODI at home, India beat the West Indies by 44 runs. Batting first, India lost three wickets for 43 runs. KL Rahul (49) and Suryakumar Yadav (64) stitched a partnership of 90 runs before Rahul was run out. Next batter Washington Sundar (24) and Yadav added 43 runs but the latter’s wicket meant the team was restricted to 237/9.

For West Indies, Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith took two wickets each while Kemar Roach, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, and Fabian Allen took one each. In reply, the Men In Maroon lost five wickets for 76 runs. Shamarh Brooks (44) and Akeal Hosein (34) added 41 runs before Brooks was dismissed by Deepak Hooda.
Odeon Smith (24) and Akeal Hosein tried to win the game but to no avail. They were restricted to 193 all out.
