India- South Africa series was a closely fought battle between the two teams. The first two matches were won by the visitors, while India fought back by winning the next two games. The decider was washed out due to rain, which led to both teams sharing the trophy.

Let’s look at the 5 Indian cricketers who made a strong case for places in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

1. Ishan Kishan

Probably the best Indian batter in the India- South Africa T20I series, the left-handed batter made 206 runs in five games at an average of 41.20. After his sub-par performance in the Indian T20 League, the southpaw came up with two half-century knocks to stamp his authority and made his case for the opening slot for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup later this year.

2. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel did not have a very good Indian T20 League either, but fared well in the T20 series against South Africa. The Gujarat-born pacer was the highest wicket-taker from India with seven wickets in four innings at an average of 12.57. When others struggling, Patel was able to take the game by the scruff of the neck and guide India to victory.

3. Dinesh Karthik

Probably the most deserving name on this list, the right-handed wicketkeeper deserves a mention. The greatness of MS Dhoni did not allow for another wicketkeeper to be in the team for a very lon time but Karthik did not stop working.

Now that the place has been open for contention, the right-hand batter has come up with a strong claim of his own. A good Indian T20 League as well as match-winning contributions in the recently concluded India- South Africa series forced the management to make a place for him. He made 92 runs at an average of 46, including his debut fifty in the 4th T20I.

4. Hardik Pandya

Coming into the national side after a long time, the Gujarat batter had already made a claim by taking Gujarat to their debut Indian T20 League trophy. He has done one better with a good performance in the India- South Africa series as well.

Scoring 117 runs in 4 innings at an average of 58 (highest in the series) has allowed Pandya to seal a spot in the India’s T20 team.  It would be a huge task for the selectors to put Karthik and Pandya together in the team, but they would have to.

5. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Another player, who has had problems with injury, is Bhuvneshwar Kumar. In the past couple of years, he had performed below expectations but the right arm pacer is looking at his best, presently. Bhuvneshwar was instrumental to India’s comeback in the league. He picked 6 wickets in 4 matches and also bagged Player of the Series award.
