In the 7th match of Pakistan Super League 2024, Multan Sultans beat Lahore Qalandars by 5 wickets. In a thrilling game at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan helped their team to win the game.

Earlier in the game, Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Afridi won the toss and opted to bat first. His decision went well with the team, as Lahore posted a competitive total of 166-5 after 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan, opening the inning, failed to contribute as he was dismissed for just 2 runs. However, Fakhar Zaman scored 41 runs at a strike rate of 136.22 but was eventually dismissed by Abbas Afridi.

The highlight of Lahore’s innings was the explosive performance by van der Dussen, who notched up a rapid 54 runs off 37 balls before falling victim to Usama Mir. Sikandar Raza and Jahandad Khan also made significant contributions, scoring 23 and 16 runs, respectively.

Lahore Qalandars concluded their innings with a total of 166 runs for the loss of five wickets, setting the stage for an intriguing second innings in the game. For the Multan Sultans, Mohammad Ali took two wickets, while Usama Mir and Abbas Afridi took one wicket each.

Chasing a target of 166/5 set by the Lahore Qalandars, the Multan Sultans exhibited a stellar batting performance, securing a five-wicket victory. The skipper, Mohammad Rizwan, set the tone with an explosive knock of 82 runs off 59 balls, providing a solid foundation for the chase. However, he failed to finish the game as he was dismissed by Zaman Khan.

The defining moment came from the resilient Iftikhar Ahmed, who played a crucial unbeaten inning of 34 runs off just 11 balls. His aggressive approach, with a strike rate of 309.09, proved instrumental in steering the Multan Sultans to victory.

Iftikhar’s ability to maintain composure under pressure and accelerate when needed showcased his batting prowess. The innings included an impressive display of power-hitting, with three boundaries and three sixes, sealing the win for the Multan Sultans with an over to spare.

With this win, the Multan Sultans registered their third consecutive win in the ongoing tournament. With six points in three games, they sit atop the points table. Meanwhile, this is Lahore Qalandars’ third defeat in the last three games.
