Rajasthan and Mumbai locked horns in the 44th game of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the toss and elected to bowl first on a slow wicket. Rajasthan started slowly before Devdutt Padikkal (15) was caught at long-off by Kieron Pollard off Hrithik Shokeen when the scorecard read 26 runs in 4.2 overs. Three overs later, Kumar Kartikeya took the wicket of Sanju Samson (16).

Daryl Mitchell, who came out to bat after Samson’s wicket, struggled during his 20-ball 17 before being caught by Sharma off Daniel Sams, trying to break the shackles. On the other hand, Jos Buttler was also not looking at 38 off 44. However, in the 16th over, he took the attack to Shokeen, who came to bowl his third over of the spell.

Buttler hit four back-to-back sixes to change the momentum of the innings before he was caught at long-off by Suryakumar Yadav on the last ball of the over. Ravichandran Ashwin (21* off nine) played a cameo to take the team to a competitive total of 158/6. In reply, the five-time winners started briskly before skipper Rohit Sharma (2) was caught by Mitchell off Ashwin, trying to play the sweep shot. Out of form, Ishan Kishan looked good with the bat in this game.

He scored 26 off just 18 balls before he top-edged a short ball from Trent Boult and was caught behind by Samson in the last over of the powerplay. At 41/2, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, who have scored the bulk of runs for the team, stitched a partnership of 81 runs. Yadav scored 51 off 39 balls including five fours and two sixes before being caught at long-off by Riyan Parag off Yuzvendra Chahal.

Varma (35) followed in the next over as he was caught by the same fielder off Prasidh Krishna. However, these quick wickets didn’t deter Tim David (20* off nine) as Mumbai went on to win the game by five wickets, although this win came a bit too late of them.
