Huge blow for Bangladesh as star bowlers suffer injury

Published on

Bangladesh is playing the first match of their South Africa tour at Kingsmead Durban. The chances of the “Bengal Tigers” seem dim in the test as they are 11 for 3 wickets down chasing a target of 274 at the close of play on the 4th day.

Amidst their problems in the match Bangladesh receive a shock as two of their prime bowlers have picked up an injury and would be returning home before the next match. Taskin Ahmed has picked up an injury on the right shoulder. It has been decided that he will be rested to allow time for recovery. Taskin was the best bowler for the team during the ODI series. On the other hand, Shoriful Islam who missed the first test has been diagnosed with a left ankle injury.

Taskin Ahmed just bowled five overs on the fourth day of the match, picking up the important wicket of Dean Elgar during the spell. Taskin was seen walking off the field holding his sore right shoulder but returned during the 58th over of the innings. According to the news he has been carrying the injury since the first innings of South Africa. This prevented him from bowling during the last session of the third day and most of the fourth day. Taskin and Shoriful will return to Bangladesh on the 5th of April.

As per ESPNcricinfo the team physio of the Bangladesh team Bayjedul Islam said on the development of the players – “Taskin had complained of right shoulder pain and difficulty of movement during the second day’s play in the first test. He received physiotherapy, supportive taping and painkillers for bowling in the second innings. His recovery is expected to take around three weeks.”

“Shoriful felt pain on his left ankle during training on 29 March. An MRI confirmed a grade 1 ankle impingement syndrome with a medial ligament injury. He has already started his rehab and is likely to resume training towards the end of this month.”- he further added on Shoirul’s injury issues.
