Rituraj Gaikwad top scored for Chennai with 92 off 50 balls.

The Indian T20 league started off with Gujrat and Chennai playing against each other on Friday at Narendra Modi Stadium. An unfortunate incident took place in the third ball of the 12th over. Rituraj Gaikwad was hitting it to all parts of the ground. He played a stellar knock of 92 off 50 balls with four fours and nine sixes. In the 12th over, Joshua Little bowled a slower length ball and Gaikwad hit it across the line. The ball flew to Williamson who got the ball back in with a perfect jump.

But a mishap happened. When he landed after catching the ball, he hurt his right knee and was in a lot of pain. If Williamson is injured, then this will be a big loss for Gujarat in the tournament. The franchise brought in the New Zealander to play the anchor role. And now, without his services, the franchise will have a lot of thinking to do.

Chennai ended up with 178-7 in their 20 overs

The first game of the Indian T20 League took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Gujarat won the toss and chose to bowl. Chennai did not get off to the best of starts as Dvon Conway was dismissed with a peach of a ball for Mohammed Shami. Moeen Ali came in at 3 and got the score moving. He made a quick 23 off 17 balls with four fours and one six.

Gaikwad hits the bowlers all across the ground in his innings. This was a wonderful return to form for the Maharashtra batter. The likes of Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja could not get going. Gaikwad’s knock held the Chennai innings together. Chennai finished their 20 overs on 178-7. MS Dhoni played a good knock of 14 off 7 balls with one four and one six.

Mohammed Shami picked up 2-29 in his four overs. Rashid Khan picked up 2-26 in his four overs. Alzarri Joseph was a bit expensive but picked up two scalps in his four overs for 33 runs. The game looks wide open after one innings and the result could go anyhow.
