The most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians(MI) have not opened their winning account in the 16th edition of the league after they were handed embarrassing defeats in their first two matches of the season. However, the biggest concern for the franchise is that the batters have failed to perform so far.

The no.1 T20I batter in the world Suryakumar Yadav entered the tournament after his forgettable performance in the recently-concluded ODI series between India and Australia where he registered a record of three consecutive golden ducks and he continued his poor form as he could not produce anything special for the team. Meanwhile, MI’s head coach Mark Boucher talked to him and said that he doesn’t want to put too much pressure on him.

“Surya is an extremely talented cricketer, one of the world’s best T20 cricketers, if not the best. He has not had the weight of runs of late but he is a fantastic player. Hope he can come good for us in the near future. I don’t want to put too much pressure on him. We all know what he can do. That is just the game of cricket. Sometimes you go through little patches where you struggle for form,” Boucher said.

We’ll back him and try to set him some new challenges: Mark Boucher

Boucher further added and said that they will continue to back Suryakumar and give him new challenges which will help him to get back to his natural game. MI will face Delhi Capitals next on Tuesday, April 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Both teams have lost their first two matches, it’d be interesting to who will be able to open their winning account.

“We’ll back him and try to set him some new challenges to get his mind off his own game if that’s what will help him to try to get some good form going into the middle and end stages of the tournament,” he added.
