England’s white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan has opened up on going unsold in the Indian T20 League mega auction held in February this year. Morgan led Kolkata to the final during the previous edition. Before the UAE leg, his side were tottering at the seventh position in the points table.

During the UAE leg, the team marked a spectacular comeback and beat Mumbai for the fourth playoff spot due to a superior Net Run Rate (NRR). The team went on to lose the final against Chennai by 27 runs. However, the left-hander’s numbers with the bat were extremely poor. In the 17 games in which he played, the English skipper could only muster 133 runs averaging 11.08 and striking at 95.68.

Subsequently, he was released by the two-time winners ahead of the mega auction. Meanwhile, the 2019 World Cup-winning skipper said that he looked at playing in the cash-rich league as a win-win situation. He added that the tournament is the biggest in the world as he used his experience of playing in this league for gaining an advantage in his career. He also mentioned that he made a lot of memories and experiences over the years while featuring in this league. The aggressive batter further added that if he had started playing in the ongoing tournament, he would have continuously played till the T20 World Cup 2022, which is scheduled to take place in Australia.

“I looked at the ITL as a win-win, to be honest. Being there at the biggest tournament in the world is an experience that I’ve used to my advantage over the years and I’ve had some great memories and experiences along the way. But looking to the rest of the year for us, once I start playing again, it doesn’t stop until after the World Cup. I’ve had a lovely period at home: good family time,” said Morgan in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo.

Talking about the Indian T20 league career of the middle-order batter, he has played 83 games in the league since making his debut for Bangalore in 2010. Since then, Morgan has played for Kolkata, Punjab, and Hyderabad.
