India registered a great victory against Bangladesh in their second Test match in Dhaka. With this win, the team led by KL Rahul also whitewashed the hosts 2-0 in the series. Earlier, India had defeated Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test in Chattogram.

India’s narrow victory in the second Test puts them in second place in the Test Championship points table. They currently have a points percentage of 58.92, which is higher than South Africa’s 55.76 in third place. Australia, which leads the points table, is almost certain to compete in next year’s WTC final, with India and South Africa vying for the other spot.

The conditions are simple for India, as a 4-0 series victory over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will secure their place in the Test Championship final. Even if India wins the upcoming Test series 3-0 or 3-1, they will be in a strong position to compete in the WTC final, as South Africa will need to win all four of their remaining matches, which is highly unlikely given that two of them will be played in the ongoing Test series against Australia.

Bangladesh vs India

As for the game, Bangladesh were in big trouble after surrendering a lead in the first innings thanks to heroics from India’s Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. The Bangladeshi top order failed to thwart the Indian bowlers in the second innings on a tricky surface at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, were given new life after Litton Das’ counter-attacking 73, along with useful contributions from Nurul Hasan and Taskin Ahmed. They eventually set India a difficult target of 145 runs on a surface that was becoming increasingly difficult for batters.

Following that, Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s five-wicket haul was no help for India either. India was reduced to 74/7 at one point. However, Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin came to the aid of the Indians, saving them from peril. Their unbeaten 71-run eighth-wicket stand guided India to a victory in Dhaka, extending their winning streak against the hosts in the longest format of the game.
