‘He was the only captain in Indian T20 League who gave me sleepless nights’- Gautam Gambhir makes staggering revelations

Gautam Gambhir has been an integral force in India’s World Cup wins in 2007 (T20) and 2011 (ODI).

Gautam Gambhir picks toughest ITL Captain

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was in action in the commentary box during the second Test of the 4-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series in Delhi. India crushed the Aussies by 6 wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series within three days of play. As much as the action on the field caught the spectator’s eyes, the words from the commentary box also made headlines of their own.

While commentating on Day 3, Gautam Gambhir was asked which two players he’d want in his Kolkata team of the Indian T20 League by a fellow commentator. Gambhir acknowledged that it was a difficult question, but he quickly made his two picks.

Gautam Gambhir picked Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh as two players he wanted at Kolkata

“It’s a difficult question, but the answer is very simple. If I have to pick two players, I have an easy answer. My first player would be Rohit Sharma, and the second would be Yuvraj Singh. I didn’t need any other player apart from these two. I’m not saying we would be having a perfect team, but we would’ve won more than two titles (if we had these two players.),” Gambhir said.

“Rohit and I would open, Robin Uthappa at 3, Suryakumar Yadav at 4, Yuvraj at 5, Yusuf Pathan at 6 and Andre Russell at 7. You can imagine what a team that would have been. We tried our best to get Yuvraj, but that couldn’t happen,” the former India batter added.

He also mentioned that Rohit was the “only captain” who troubled him in the Indian T20 League. “The only captain who gave me sleepless nights was Rohit Sharma. I didn’t need to make plans for anyone else, nor did I think much about others. Yuvraj, I think, is India’s greatest white-ball cricketer, not just because of his player of the series performance in the World Cup, but because of his vast talent and ability,” said Gambhir.

Notably, Gambhir has led Kolkata to two league titles in 2012 and 2014 which also happen to be the only two league titles in the franchise’s history.
