‘He is the one I would certainly look at’- Sunil Gavaskar suggests one change in India’s Asia Cup team for T20I World Cup

India crashed out of the Asia Cup 2022 after losing to Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

India got into the Asia Cup 2022 with absolute favourites. The tournament however turned out to be a huge reality check for the Men in Blue as they were dumped out of the tournament after back-to-back defeats from Pakistan as well as Sri Lanka. The two have gone on to play the final while Indian heads home after embarrassingly crashing out.

The former India batter Sunil Gavaskar however is not worried much about India’s performance and thinks a couple of changes to the team could eliminate the ongoing issues and make them strong enough for the T20I World Cup later this year.

Speaking to India Today on one change that India should make for the upcoming World Cup, Gavaskar put forth Deepak Chahar’s name and said he would be beneficial to the Indian team in Australian conditions.

I would say Deepak Chahar. He is the one I would certainly look at because it will be Australia and there will be an extra bounce. And with the kind of movement that he generates with the new ball. He is somebody who’s got to factor in if…you know we’ve always picked about 4-5 bowlers for the Australia or South Africa tour and one of them gets wasted. But in a fast-paced tournament like the T20I, I think to go with Deepak Chahar would be beneficial for the Indian team,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

The Indian team for the 2022 T20 World Cup is reportedly said to be announced next week.

There will be three-four changes: Rohit Sharma

“There is still about two-and-a-half months left for the T20 World Cup. Before that, we have the Asia Cup and two home series against Australia and South Africa. So, more or less 80-90 percent of your team is set, of course, there could be three-four changes if at all depending on the conditions,” Indian captain Rohit Sharma said after India’s Asia Cup ouster.

Although India crashed out of the Asia Cup, both Indian batters (Virat Kohli) and bowlers (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) led the batting and bowling charts for the tournament.
