Former Pakistan opener Imran Nazir has made a highly controversial claim, saying that India will not visit Pakistan because they are afraid of losing. According to Nazir, citing security concerns as a reason for not visiting the country is merely an excuse.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Indian Cricket Board have been in conflict over who will host the Asia Cup in 2023. Pakistan has been given the honour of hosting the event. The Indian cricket board, on the other hand, has made it absolutely clear that they will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

According to recent reports, India’s Asia Cup 2023 matches may be moved to neutral venues, while other matches may continue to be played in Pakistan as planned. Meanwhile, on the Nadir Ali podcast, Nazir slammed India’s claims about security concerns.

“There is no security reason. Just look at how many teams have been to Pakistan. Forget A teams, even Australia visited. These are all just cover-ups. The truth is that India won’t come to Pakistan [for Asia Cup] because they are afraid of losing. Security is just an excuse. Come and play cricket. When you start playing politics, there is no way back,” he said.

The last time India visited Pakistan was for the Asia Cup in 2008. They advanced to the final, where they were defeated by Sri Lanka by a score of 100 runs. For a long time, the bilateral series between the two countries have been at a standstill. Pakistan last visited India for a short white-ball series in 2012-13.

People want to watch India vs Pakistan games: Imran Nazir

While advocating for the resumption of India-Pakistan bilateral matches, Nazir stated that while fans are eager to see the match, India cannot afford to lose to their arch-rivals.”People want to watch India vs Pakistan games because there is a different level of excitement to it. The entire world knows it. Even we as cricketers feel that for cricket to reach every corner of the world, India-Pakistan matches need to happen. We used to play so much cricket. They are such a balanced team but India cannot tolerate losing. It’s a game; you’ll win some, you’ll lose some,” he added.
