India cricketer KL Rahul, who married long-term girlfriend Athiya Shetty on January 23, received lavish wedding gifts from MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. According to Pinkvilla, the two former India captains spent 3.50 crore on two extremely luxurious presents for Rahul on his special day.
Dhoni, under whom Rahul made his ODI and T20I debut for India, presented him with an 80 lakh Kawasaki Ninja bike, whereas Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma presented KL and Athiya with a 2.70 crore BMW.
While the exact models are unknown, it is believed that Dhoni, who is a motorcycle enthusiast, chose a Ninja H2R, which has a showroom price of Rs. 79,90,000. Rahul and Athiya married in a private wedding ceremony in Khandala, and while many celebrities from the film industry and Indian cricket were invited, many were unable to attend due to their busy schedules.
While Dhoni is preparing for the Indian T20 League 2023, multiple videos of which have surfaced online, Kohli was playing in the India-New Zealand ODI series. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya were also invited, but like Kohli, both were on national duty.
Rahul, who was left out of the Indian squads for the ODIs and T20Is against New Zealand, as well as the first two Tests against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is expected to return for the three ODI series in mid-March.
Suniel Shetty and his wife Mana have given the couple a plush apartment in Mumbai worth 50 crores, among other lavish gifts. Salman Khan gave them an AUDI worth 1.6 crores, while Jackie Shroff and Arjun Kapoor gave Athiya a watch and a bracelet worth 30 lahks and 1.5 crores, respectively.
In the meantime, Twitter was shocked as the former Indian captains presented the newlyweds with such expensive gifts. “Ye hote hai dost. Koi 2 crore ki gaadi de rha koi crore ki bike. Hamare dost to aise nikamme bekar chutiye hai jo shaadi me free ka kha ke jayenge vo bhi kisi ki chappal chor ke,” a user wrote.
