The precautionary measure of withdrawing Jasprit Bumrah from the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka may not be enough to force the pacer to play the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. According to the latest reports, Bumrah is unlikely to play in the entire New Zealand limited-overs series and at least the first couple of Test matches against Australia.

Bumrah was withdrawn from Sri Lanka ODIs on the eve of the series opener in Guwahati, exactly a month before the first of four Tests against Australia, which begins on February 9 in Nagpur, after experiencing back discomfort.

It was a last-minute decision to include Bumrah in the ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series. After receiving a green light from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where Bumrah has been undergoing rehabilitation for some time, the selectors immediately drafted him into the squad.

But, just as things were looking up for Bumrah and India, the pacer felt some discomfort on his back during a match simulation training session. The fast bowler breezed through the match simulation on the first day but complained of back pain the next day when the load was increased. The team’s management immediately decided to remove him from the ODI squad, not taking any chances and keeping the Australia Tests, Asia Cup, and ODI World Cup in mind.

Meanwhile, fans have grown increasingly enraged by Jasprit Bumrah’s injury. They expected to see him in the Sri Lanka ODI but were disappointed not to see him. The news that he will miss an important series, such as the Test series against Australia, has enraged them even more.

Many have conspired that the 29-year-old is only being held back to be fully prepared for the Indian T20 League. They believe he would have been granted permission to play if the cash-rich tournament had been held at steak.

“No offence, but it’s hard on other bowlers. They toil hard throughout the year, but they will be out for Bumrah once he returns directly into major series/tournaments,” a fan wrote.
