As the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 has entered into the business end, teams are gearing up for the playoff games. Chennai Super Kings is facing defending champions Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier, while LSG and MI will play in the eliminator. However, ahead of the game between GT and CSK, Chennai player Imran Tahir revealed an unknown story about CSK skipper MS Dhoni.

In a video released by TV broadcaster Star Sports, Imran, along with Harbhajan Singh, shared a story of the dressing room where Dhoni burst into tears. Harbhajan stated that when CSK returned from the ban in 2018, there was a team meal and MS Dhoni cried that night. Tahir went on to say that it was an emotional time for Dhoni.

The South African spinner revealed that day he knew CSK was like a family to Dhoni. Tahir stated that despite being branded as a team of old men, they won the trophy in 2018 and he is pleased with it. “There is a story that I want to share. Back in 2018, when CSK made a comeback to this league after a two-year ban, there was a team dinner. I have heard the saying that ‘Men don’t cry’, but MS Dhoni cried that night. He became emotional. I think no one knows about this,” said Harbhajan.

“He considers the team as his family”, says Imran Tahir

Further speaking about the same, South African superstar Tahir said, “We came back after two years and won the title. People give your team the tag of ‘buddha’ (old men), and even I was in the squad that season. However, we won the trophy. I am very proud of that victory. Looking at Dhoni like that, I came to know how close CSK is to his heart. He considers the team as his family. It was a very emotional moment for all of us.”

Notably, in 2018, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings made a comeback after two years of ban. Coming into the league, the team was labelled as Daddy’s Army due to the team combinations. However, Dhoni and his team stood up against all odds and clinched the trophy for the third time in the history of the Indian Premier League. This year also, the team would look to win the trophy and give Dhoni a well-deserved tribute.
