‘GOAT proving it once again’ – Fans react to Lionel Messi clinching record 8th Ballon d’Or trophy
Lionel Messi has now three more Ballon d’Or trophies as compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lionel Messi of Inter Miami praised his teammates on October 30, in Paris, following his victory with the Ballon d’Or 2023 trophy. Messi won the Ballon d’Or for a record-breaking eighth time, breaking his own record. This indicates that he possesses three more than Cristiano Ronaldo, the next greatest player. He took first place on the podium, ahead of Kylian Mbappe in third place and Erling Haaland in second.
Messi took home the trophy after guiding Argentina to victory in Qatar at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In addition, he won Ligue 1 alongside Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) the previous campaign. Since joining Inter Miami on a free transfer this summer, he has been fairly effective.
The former Barcelona player congratulated his teammates after taking home the trophy at the Theatre de Chatelet. The superstar said that he preferred team honours more than individual ones.
The first title in Inter Miami’s history, the Leagues Cup, was won earlier this year with Messi’s assistance. In addition, he led them to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final, although he was sidelined by a muscle injury during the team’s 1-0 loss to Cincinnati.
Since the beginning of the 2022–23 season, Lionel Messi has consistently been on fire both for his club and nation. After netting seven goals and dishing out three assists during seven games during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he was awarded the Golden Ball.
Additionally, Messi finished the previous campaign with an outstanding record of 21 goals as well as 20 assists across 41 games in all competitions for PSG. He has played in 14 games with Inter Miami, tallying 11 goals along with five assists thus far.
Lionel Messi and his stellar form for Argentina
The 36-year-old’s stellar play for La Albiceleste is continuing following his World Cup victory. In six international matches since the beginning of 2023, he has eight goals and one assist.
Following the conclusion of the Major League Soccer season, Lionel Messi expressed his pride in his team’s accomplishments in his first season with Inter Miami. The side finished 14th within the Eastern Conference. His next match is scheduled for November, when Argentina plays Brazil and Uruguay in an attempt for qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
