On 1 December 2022, Pakistan locked horns with England in Rawalpindi for the first match of the three-match Test series. After a long gap of 17 years, England finally came to Pakistan to play a Test series. So, it was a historical moment for all Pakistan fans to witness a Test series between these sides.

Before the match, some reports were there that the match can get delayed by one day as some England players got infected by an unknown virus. But, the match started as per the schedule on 1 December. Speaking of the match, England won the toss and opted to bat first.

England defeated Pakistan by 74 runs in the first Test of the series

In the first innings, Ben Stokes and his men scored 657 runs in 101 overs. Four different batters scored hundreds in that innings. However, it was a record as all those tons came on Day one only. Even, England became the first team to score more than 500 runs on Day one. In reply to that, Pakistan scored 579 runs in 155.3 overs. Three different batters including the skipper, Babar Azam scored hundreds in that innings. Agha Salman also scored 53 runs off 67 balls. For the visitors, debutant Will Jacks took six wickets for 161 runs in 40.3 overs.

Then, England scored 264 runs for seven wickets in 35.5 overs. Harry Brooks scored 87 runs off 65 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes. Thus, England gave a target of 343 runs to Pakistan in the fourth innings. Pakistan had a steady start to the chase as they ended Day four at 80 runs for two wickets. On the fifth day of the match, England had a decent start as the end of tea, they were at 257 runs for five wickets in 77 overs. Then, in the last session, James Anderson and Ollie Robinson came up with some fantastic spells as Pakistan were 264 runs for nine wickets in 94 overs. But, England finally managed to take the final wicket and England defeated Pakistan by 74 runs.
