‘Get well soon champ’ – Cricketers send wishes to Rishabh Pant as he escapes horrifying accident in Uttarakhand

Pant broke the window to escape from the burning car.

Star India cricketer Rishabh Pant met with an accident during the wee hours on Friday while travelling from Delhi to Uttarakhand. The wicketkeeper batter was driving a Mercedes which hit a divider on the Narsan border of Roorkee near Hammadpur Jhal and caught fire. As per initial information, Pant was first admitted to Saksham Hospital in Roorkee. Now he has been referred to Max Hospital in Dehradun.

Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police, Uttarakhand told India today that the 25-year-old claimed he lost control of the car after falling asleep while driving. Pant was alone in the car at the time of the accident and broke a window to escape.

According to the doctors, Pant suffered injuries to his forehead and leg. After getting the information, Superintendent of Police Dehat Swapna Kishore Singh reached the spot. Dr. Sushil Nagar, chairman of Saksham Hospital, said that at present Rishabh Pant’s condition is stable, he has been referred to Max Dehradun.

“Hearing a loud sound of the accident, nearby villagers along with the local cops, rushed to the spot and pulled him out of the car. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to a major hospital in Dehradun,” said Swapna Kishor Singh, superintendent of police, Haridwar (rural) was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Informing about the injuries, the senior police officer said, “Pant sustained injuries on his forehead, a hand and right knee. However, he is conscious and able to talk. The car he was driving was completely burnt. He is lucky to survive the severe accident.”

Several images of the car have emerged from the accident spot. The car can be seen severely burnt and in horrific condition. Videos of the car burning are also being widely circulated on social media where the four-wheeler can be seen engulfed in flames and burning profusely.

Rishabh Pant was left out of India’s squads for both the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka starting on January 3rd. The Indian Cricket Board press release did not specify whether Pant was injured, rested, or dropped. However, there were reports which suggested that he had a knee injury and the team management didn’t want to risk him with the four-match Test series against Australia approaching.
