Four instances when batters hit six sixes in an over in List A and ODI cricket
Hitting a cricket ball over the ropes requires both skill and strength.
Hitting a cricket ball over the ropes requires both skill and strength. Not many players can consistently smash maximums. However, with the introduction of shorter formats, shortened boundaries, and thick bats, we frequently see a slew of sixes in cricket matches.
No matter how easy it has become to hit sixes, hitting a maximum on every delivery of an over is still unheard of. Only a few players in the game’s history have accomplished the feat. In this listicle, we’ll have a look at the times when a batter struck six (or more) sixes in a single over in List-A and ODI cricket.
#1 Herschelle Gibbs
Herschelle Gibbs, the legendary South African opener, became the first man in international history to hit six maximums in an over. On March 16, 2007, he accomplished the feat during an ODI World Cup match against the Netherlands in Basseterre, West Indies. Herschelle Gibbs went after Daan van Bunge in the 30th over of South Africa’s innings.
On the first ball, the right-handed batter charged down the wicket and hit it over long on for six. He smashed the second and third deliveries over long-off. Gibbs sent the fourth delivery from the leggie over the deep midwicket fence for another maximum, before sending the fifth delivery over wide long off for another. Gibbs made history by hitting the sixth six over deep midwicket.
#2 Thisara Perera
Former Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera became the first Sri Lankan batter in List A history to hit six sixes in an over. The left-handed southpaw was leading the Sri Lanka Army against Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club in a group match.
Perera exploded on the day with an unbeaten 52-run knock off 13 deliveries. As the veteran all-rounder went berserk, he took the linking of part-time off-spinner Dilhan Cooray. He became the ninth player in professional cricket history to hit six sixes in an over.
#3 Jaskaran Malhotra
Jaskaran Malhotra, born in Chandigarh, is a member of the USA cricket team. He became the first USA player and the fourth batter in international cricket history to hit six maximums in an over. Jaskaran Malhotra was batting unbeaten after a century in an ODI against Papua New Guinea when he faced Toka in the final over of the innings.
The right-handed batter smoked the pacer for six consecutive sixes to provide an explosive finish to the USA’s innings, extending his unbeaten run total to 173 runs off 124 deliveries. The American batter joined Herschelle Gibbs in the elite club of batters with six sixes in one-day international cricket.

#4 Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad made history by hitting seven sixes in a single over. He accomplished this feat in the Vijay Hazare Cup 2022 quarter-finals. UP bowler Shiva Singh bowled six fair deliveries and one no-ball, all of which sailed over the boundary rope for six runs.
Gaikwad became the first-ever player to hit seven sixes in a single over of cricket. The star player also scored a double hundred in the game, helping Maharashtra set a massive total of 330 runs. He ended with the figures of 220 in 159 balls, with 10 boundaries and 16 sixes.
