‘Following the path of the men’s team’ – Fans react to Mumbai winning comfortably against Delhi

Delhi and Mumbai, the two in-form teams of the Women’s T20 League faced off against each other in Navi Mumbai today. Both the teams entered the contest on the back of two consecutive wins and were unbeaten which meant that only one team could leave the stadium with a 100% record.

Delhi skipper Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to bat first once again. Delhi scored over 200 runs in the two matches they have played this season and were hoping for a similar score to post for the Mumbai team to chase down.

How did the match between Delhi and Mumbai pan out?

Mumbai knew that the opening partnership was so crucial for the Delhi team, so they managed to chip away with three wickets in the powerplay to make sure they feel the pressure right from the start. Shafali Verma,  Alice Capsey, and Marizanne Kapp all lost their wickets to good bowling by the Mumbai bowlers.

The Delhi franchise appeared to be coming back into the contest when Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues were at the crease with a 50-run partnership. But when the pair was split apart, Mumbai did not turn around as Issy Wong, Saika Ishaque, and Hayley Matthews each took three wickets. Only three batters reached the double digits.

Meg Lanning extended her solid run of form with a decent 43 runs but gave away her wicket owing to the pressure of wickets from the other end. Delhi got bowled out for just 105 runs and did not even play the full quota of 20 overs. This was going to be an easy chase for Mumbai batters considering how solid they have looked in this season till now.

Mumbai openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews got the team off to a strong start with getting 47 off the powerplay overs as they chased the target down. Meg Lanning looked under extreme pressure as the batters were over the Delhi bowlers and had answers to all questions they asked of them.

Yastika Bhatia lost her wicket after playing a great knock of 41 runs. She gave her wicket away to Tara Norris who has been shining brightly for the Delhi franchise this season. Jemimah Rodrigues took a blinder of a catch off Alice Capsey’s bowling to dismiss the in-form Hayley Matthews but by then the damage had already been done.

Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur finished the game off with five overs to spare and Mumbai continued their tradition of finishing the games with conviction and not leaving them till the end. They are now the only team to have a 100% win record in the Women’s T20 League.

Here’s how fans react to another win for the Mumbai women in the WTL: –
