WWE is one of the most dangerous sports of all time. Though WWE is frequently mocked for being “fake,” it has a long history of real-life pain and suffering. Wrestlers do their best to keep the violence that entertains us under control and to protect their fellow competitors, but there is only so much they can do. In this listicle, we’ll have a look at the top five worst injuries and deaths in WWE and Pro Wrestling.

The Undertaker

On May 25, 2010, Rey Mysterio hit a seated senton that smashed Undertaker’s face during a SmackDown taping. The Undertaker defeated Mysterio with the Tombstone piledriver after the match lasted just over a minute longer.

If fans had to guess who would have walked away from a match between Rey Mysterio and The Undertaker with a broken nose, broken orbital bone, and a concussion, most would have picked the little guy.

Brian Ong

Wrestler Brian Ong’s death is one of the more interesting stories about wrestling deaths. He died while in a training session with Dalip Singh (known for his time in WWE as The Great Khali). Ong had already been dealing with a number of injuries before the session. However, the APW promotion allowed him to continue performing.

In the training session, Singh performed a flapjack, which required the attention of both the executioner and the victim. Ong failed to do his part effectively, falling hard onto the mat and injuring himself severely. He passed away a few days later.

John Cena

On October 1, 2007, John Cena tore his right pectoral muscle completely during a match against Mr. Kennedy. The culprit was an awkward hip toss. It happened early in the match, and Cena fought through the rest of it.

He could be seen clutching his arm to his side like a broken wing, trying to shake off the pain. Later, Randy Orton stepped in and delivered an RKO. WWE stripped Cena of his championship, and he took time off to recover before making a surprise appearance at the 2008 Royal Rumble.

Triple H

After tearing his left quadriceps muscle, Triple H wrestled on with unimaginable grit. This incident happened near the end of a tag match on Raw between Steve Austin and Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit in May 2001.

Jericho locked the Walls of Jericho on him atop a table after Triple H dragged himself out of the ring. Despite the agony, it must have caused him, Triple H went ahead with the match. For the next eight months, Triple H sat on the sidelines.

Owen Hart

In 1999, Owen Hart was about to challenge for the Intercontinental Championship. WWF decided on a character-appropriate entrance for Hart. The plan was for him to descend from the rafters into the ring. Before the event, the concerned personnel successfully tested the entrance.

Unfortunately, while making the actual entrance, Hart accidentally activated the early release mechanism. He was 78 feet above the ring at the time. As a result, he fell chest-first into the ring. After the on-site staff failed to revive Hart, he was taken to a hospital, where he died before midnight.
