MS Dhoni has achieved a lot as a captain. For the national team, he has led India to three World titles in 2007, 2011, and 2013- a feat never achieved by any skipper. Talking about his stint with the Chennai franchise in the Indian T20 League, he has led the team to the title four times. Only Rohit Sharma is ahead of him with five titles for Mumbai.

The 40-year-old also has led the team to two titles in the now-defunct Champions League in 2010 and 2014. He is regarded as one of the greatest the game has ever seen. However, he has been accused by fans of backstabbing players on a few occasions. In this listicle, we will discuss five players who didn’t get enough support from Dhoni when they needed it the most.

Five players who didn’t get support from Dhoni when they needed it the most:

1. Yuvraj Singh

The left-hander was part of the 2011 World Cup winning team, which was led by MS Dhoni. Around one month after the win, Singh was diagnosed with cancer and couldn’t play too many games in the next two years after recovering from the disease. This impacted his career and missed out on a spot in the 2013 Champions Trophy and the 2015 World Cup. However, he did play the 2012 and 2014 20-20 World Cups. His father alleged that Dhoni betrayed his son.

2. Gautam Gambhir

During the 2012 Tri Series between Australia, India and Sri Lanka, Dhoni started rotating the likes of Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar. According to him, all three together couldn’t be part of the playing XI for the team. For the unversed, the former India skipper was looking to groom a youngster for the 2015 World Cup, which was played in Australia and New Zealand. The fans were unhappy seeing the way the senior pros were treated by the Ranchi-born player. This scenario meant that the trio started remaining aloof from the rest of the players.

3. Virender Sehwag

After his retirement in late 2015, the former opening batter reminded everyone of the statement the latter gave on him. For the unversed, Sehwag was pointing towards the ‘Slow Fielders’ statement Dhoni made in 2012. The Delhi player had said that the former wicketkeeper batter didn’t speak to him about this flaw and directly interacted with the media on the matter.

4. Suresh Raina

The four-time Indian T20 League winner went unsold in the 2022 Indian T20 League mega auction early this year. After this, the fans slammed Dhoni and Chennai franchise on Twitter. Chennai endured a poor outing in the Indian T20 League 2022 and the fans believe that the poor performances of the team in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022 is because the team lacks the experience of Raina.

5. Ravindra Jadeja

The all-rounder was handed the leadership of the Yellow Army ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022. However, with the team losing six out of eight games, the job was given back to Dhoni. The fans felt that Dhoni’s politics in the team led to Jadeja failing as the leader of the team.
