Indian Women’s Cricket team is going to play in the Commonwealth Games in what is going to be a historic moment for cricket and the Commonwealth tournament. This is only the first time Cricket is being included in the prestigious event after 1998. The last time it happened, South Africa won the ODI format defeating Australia in the final.

Things however are different this time around. Not only are the Men’s cricket teams not included but there has been a change in the format as well. The cricket format included in the CWG 2022 will be the T20I.

Indian Women’s cricket team is all set to take on the world’s best and hopefully win gold for the country. Let’s look at five Indian women cricketers to watch out for in the upcoming CWG 2022

1. Shafali Verma

At just 15 years old, Shafali Verma became the youngest Indian to debut in the T20I format. Since then the Rohtak-born has played 32 T20I matches and scored 753 runs with an average of 25.

The highest score of 73 along with three fifties point to the 18-year-old becoming mature as she plays more games. The CWG 2022 could be the tournament where she takes the big next step as a cricketer.

2. Renuka Singh

The 26-year-old Renuka Singh is a fast bowler who is emerging as India’s finest in the last few games. Having played six T20I matches, Singh has taken 10 wickets at an average of 18.20 and a strike rate of 22.8.

Her economy of 6.40 is mightily impressive for T20I. She would be India’s fiercest weapon on swing-friendly English pitches.

3. Harmanpreet Kaur

A player so good that she was made the team’s captain after the retirement of legendary Mithali Raj. Harmanpreet Kaur has not just taken the baton forward but has put additional feathers to it.

Kaur is the only Indian women’s batter to hit a century in T20I. She also surpassed Mithali Raj and has become India’s leading run-scorer in the shortest format of the game. This is Kaur’s first major event as captain and she would hope to lead by example in the prestigious event.

4. Deepti Sharma

Deepti Sharma is one of India’s best bowlers. In 61 T20I matches, she has taken 63 wickets at an average of 20.96 and a strike rate of 20.3. She also has a good economy of 6.16. Her 2022 in particular has been expectational as she took five wickets in just 14 overs with a strike rate of 16.8.

5. Smriti Mandhana

The stylish left-hander is among the most popular players in the team. Her ability to play to the innings is what sets her apart from others. She could hold the fort when needed but also smash the ball all around when her team needs the most.

Commonwealth Games 2022 would be the perfect place to showcase her skill. Her strike rate of 120 is the best in the business.
