Five capped players who might go unsold in WPL 2024 auction
The WPL auction 2024 is just a day away from starting. The auction would be held in Mumbai, where a total of 165 players are set to go under the hammer. A total of 30 spots are up for grabs in the league where 5 teams would be looking to get the best players that might be helpful for them. Gujarat Giants has the most number of slots available with 10 players left to be picked.
RCB has a total of 7 spots left. Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz have 5 spots each. Delhi Capitals have just three spots left to be picked. Two players have set their base price at INR 50 lakhs – Kim Garth and Deandra Dottin. Many Indian players have registered their names to take part in the league. On this big day, 104 Indian players and 61 overseas players are set to be auctioned.
Here are the 5 capped players who might go unsold in the auction:
5. Punam Raut
Punam Raut was one of the best Indian players in the 2010s. The short batter was versatile and could bat in different positions. She was a key player in the Indian lineup for an entire decade in all the formats. However, in the last 3 years, Punam has not been a regular in the Indian team. The lack of exposure at the highest level might go against her, as the franchises have better options to look for at the moment.
4. Ekta Bisht
Ekta Bisht was one of the best left-arm orthodox spinners during her time. In the early 2010s, Ekta was a prime spinner in the Indian lineup. With her spin bowling, Bisht was a key performer for India. In the last few years, Bisht has not been in the scheme of things for India, given the emergence of the youngsters. With her being aged, franchises might not be looking to get her in their lineups.
3. Marufa Akter
Akter is a medium-pace bowler from Bangladesh. Although Akter is talented, she does not have enough exposure at the highest level. Bangladesh do not play enough cricket against the top teams in the world like England, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. It might go against her, as the WPL has some of the best players in the world taking part in the league and with limited slots up for grabs.
2. Kate Cross
Cross is one of the best medium pacers in the world. But given the lack of spots for the overseas players in the side, franchises might not be interested in getting her. Many teams have quality pacers in their lineup. Cross might be one of those unfortunate cricketers, who might be overlooked by the franchises. Cross has not played enough cricket in recent times, which might also go against her in the WPL auction 2024.
1. Alana King
King is one of the best orthodox spinners in the world. The Australian spinner is an integral part of the side that has dominated the world in the last few years. However, King might not be in demand in the WPL 2024, as she is an off-spinner, a commodity that is not scarce in the league. Resulting in her not getting any teams. Many sides have a good finger spinner already in their squad.
