The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off on November 20 with the hosts Qatar taking on Ecuador and eventually losing the match with a scoreline of 0-2. As things stand, Switzerland and Cameroon faced off against each other on November 24, Thursday and it was the former who came out on top.

To add more, Switzerland won with a scoreline of 1-0 and Breel Embolo scored the only goal for the team in the 48th minute. Both teams gave it their all and eventually, it was the Rossocrociati who managed to pull off the win and claim the 3 points. Much to the stupefaction of Embolo, was born in Cameroon and eventually went on to score the winning goal for the Rossocrociati.

The star of the match eventually refused to celebrate after scoring the winning goal, as a mark of respect to his country of birth.  With the win, Switzerland eventually managed to climb to the top position, while Cameroon, who failed to capitalize on the golden opportunity, ended up in the last place. Yan Sammer, the goalkeeper, was adjourned the Player of the Match for his incredible saving skills, which saw Cameroon struggle to match the lead.

I think we have a great team: Murat Yakin

Prior to the match, Murat Yakin, the head coach of Switzerland team, said that they have the best team in the world and added that they will have their best World Cup in history ever. Admitting to improvement, Yakin said that his team will give their all to take home the World Cup trophy.

“I think we are the best Switzerland national team that has ever existed – we have fantastic players who play abroad and I am convinced we will perform our best World Cup ever,” Yakin was quoted as saying before the match.

“I think we have a great team with a great team spirit that has been built for the last couple of years. Football-wise we have improved a lot, and now we want to write history,” he added when asked about the team.
