FIFA World Cup 2022, Group D: Australia qualify after defeating Denmark 1-0 while Tunisia shock France
A historical win over France was not enough for Tunisia to get qualified.
All four teams of Group D played their last group-stage matches on 30 November 2022 in this ongoing FIFA World Cup. France already came to this clash by sealing their top position. In Education City Stadium, they took on Tunisia. They gave rest to all-star players like Mbappe ahead of the knockout rounds.
Meanwhile, Denmark faced Australia in Al Janoub Stadium. Both teams were looking for a win in order to get qualified for the knockout stage. Even, Tunisia had a mathematical chance to qualify. Hence, all teams pushed hard from the beginning of their respective games with an aim for the Round of 16.

Australia vs Denmark
Since the kickoff, Denmark looked to control the game. But, they failed to score goals as they were getting denied in the final third of Australia. In the 19th, Australia’s goalkeeper Mathew Ryan denied Denmark from the opener. Meanwhile, both teams failed to create big chances as the first half ended 0-0.
In the second half, Matthew Leckie produced the first goal for the Aussies. Riley McGree assisted him in the build-up as they took a much-needed lead in the 60th minute. Denmark tried to score the equalizer. But, Australian players held their nerves and ensured the 1-0 victory. Thus, they qualified for the next round with France.
Tunisia vs France
In the eighth minute, Tunisia scored the opener. But, it got canceled out as an offside goal. Then, in the 17th minute, Tunisia’s Ben Romdhane Ali had a chance. But, his effort lashed into the side netting only. In the 25th minute, Kingsley Koman had a chance for France. However, his effort ended wide of the target. Then, France Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda came up with two big saves in the 30th and 35th minutes.
Thus, the first half ended 0-0. But, in the second half, Tunisia took a lead in the 58th minute. Wahbi Khazri scored the opener while Aissa Laidouni provided the assist. Khazri managed to hit the ball into the far corner. France failed to respond while Tunisia also failed to score more despite chances. Thus, Tunisia registered a historical win over France 1-0. Still, it was not enough to get qualified for the knockout rounds.
