FIFA World Cup 2022, Day 4: Japan emerge victorious, Spain crush Croatia, Belgium win while Morocco settle for draw
Japan defeated Germany with a scoreline of 1-2.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is witnessing one of the biggest upsets already and ever since the tournament kicked off on November 20, there have been many action-filled games and thrillers, attracting fans from all over the world.
The world’s biggest sporting event witnessed four games on November 24, Thursday and it was Spain, who outclassed and came out on top with their 7-0 victory against Costa Rica, making it the biggest win of the ongoing multinational event, by goal margins so far.
As things stand, let us take a look at a round-up of Day 4 of the FIFA World Cup 2022:
1) Morocco vs Croatia (0-0)
Morocco and Croatia squared off in the first match of the day and both teams gave it their all to take home the 3 points. However, it was the latter who held the possession and dominated most parts of the game.
However, despite a great effort from the Vatreni, on the back of a stupendous defence from Morocco, both teams had to shake hands for a draw, with neither of them scoring a goal. With Group F poised, it remains to see if either of the team would make it through to the next round.
2) Germany vs Japan (1-2)
Post Saudi Arabia’s crushing win against Argentina, Japan’s emphatic victory against Germany in their campaign opener turned out to be the second-best upset of the multinational tournament. Ilkay Gundogan produced the first goal for the Die Mannschaft, capitalizing on a penalty in the 33rd minute.
However, Japan bounced back in the second half and eventually matched the lead on the back of a great goal from Ritsu Doan in the 75th minute while Takuma Asano scored the winning goal for the team in the 83rd minute, eventually sealing a win for the team and producing the second-best upset.
3) Spain vs Costa Rica (7-0)
Spain produced the biggest win of the ongoing tournament in terms of goal margin as they crushed Costa Rica with a stupendous scoreline of 7-0. Dani Olmo started off for the La Furia Roja in the 11th minute, followed by Marco Asensio in the 21st minute.
Ferran Torres made the best use of a penalty in the 31st minute and eventually went to grab a brace after adding yet another goal to his name in the 54th minute. Goals from Gavi, Carlos Soler and Álvaro Morata ensured Spain emerged victorious in the end.
4) Belgium vs Canada (1-0)
Being the favourites to win the match, Belgium eventually emerged as the winner of the clash against Canada in the final match of Day 4 of the FIFA World Cup 2022. To add more to Belgium’s victory, Michy Batshuayi scored the sole goal for his team right before the stroke of the first-half whistle.
Despite a great fightback from Canada in the second half, the Maple Leafs failed to make it count and match the lead, eventually letting Belgium take home the much-needed 3 points and making things interesting in the tournament.
