The Indian contingent for the Commonwealth Games 2022 consists of 205 players across various sports. Players such as PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, Mirabai Chanu, etc. are representing the team. Meanwhile, there is a young prodigy who will carry the expectations of winning a medal on her shoulders. Her name is Anahat Singh and she plays Squash at the age of 14 years. She is the youngest among the India contingent.

The teenage prodigy is a ninth-standard student. Anahat qualified for the Birmingham event by impressing everyone in the national selection trials. She has been making the entire sporting fraternity witness her exemplary talent since her Under-11 days. The upcoming multi-sport event will see Anahat making her senior debut, having not played at this level ever before, even in the national circuit.

Recently, she revealed that she was worried about being in the camp in the presence of experienced players but she said that the senior players were helpful to her.

“I was worried about being in the camp with such experienced players at first, but they were really sweet and helpful, they helped me fit right in,” Anahat told ESPN in a conversation ahead of the start of the Birmingham Games.

Anahat used to play badminton as a six-year-old with her sister Amira. Two years later, Anahat developed an affection for squash, a sport that her sister was already playing at Siri Fort in New Delhi. Squash started as fun for Anahat but her performances inspired her to pursue the sport professionally.

At the age of eight, the squash player used to travel across the country to take professional coaching. Both sisters are now playing the game professionally and doing well. While Anahat is representing India, her sister is playing at Harvard. Anahat has won 46 national circuit titles, two national championships and eight international titles in less than six years. She is the first Indian sportswoman to win British Junior Squash Open (2019) and US Junior Squash Open (2021).
