Erik Ten Hag defends debutant after horrible defeat for Manchester United against Fulham
Manchester United currently sit sixth on the table with hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, chastised a journalist for implying perhaps Omari Forson should not have made a debut in their February 24 loss to Fulham. During the Premier League on Saturday, the Red Devils were defeated 2-1 at Old Trafford by the Cottagers. Marcus Rashford started up front, while academy graduate Forson started on the right wing as a result of Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial’s injuries.
Forson was chosen ahead of veteran Amad Diallo and €100 million winger Antony. The striker won 0/2 duels, played 53 minutes, made 17/18 passes, produced one crucial pass, and created one significant opportunity.
One writer speculated that maybe Forson wasn’t prepared to begin the game after it ended. Ten Hag answered by saying that, “I won’t focus and I wouldn’t say that. I think he had some good actions, it was a reasonable performance.”It’s never easy, especially when it’s a slow start, but there were some good actions, he was reliable in his job, so I wouldn’t say so.”
Forson made his fourth start as a senior player for Manchester United. Throughout that time, he has only contributed one assist. On Saturday, United, on the other hand, played another subpar game and were maybe fortunate to be tied 0-0 at the interval. Then, in the 65th and 89th minutes, Fulham took the lead thanks to Calvin Bassey and Harry Maguire, respectively. In the 97th minute, Alex Iwobi scored against Manchester United, outlasting them in their attempt to find the winner.
“He’s scoring goals for us” : Harry Maguire
Manchester United was undefeated in seven games in all competitions before their matchup with Fulham. Rasmus Hojlund, who has seven goals in his past six games, was largely to blame.
But the attacker will be out for a period of two to three weeks due to a muscular problem. Because of this, United started Marcus Rashford forward against Fulham, with the two youngsters on the wings. Harry Maguire, discussed the effect of Hojlund’s absence following the game, addressing the club website:
Harry Maguire said, “He [Rasmus] is a big player for us,” he said. “He’s been the focal point leading the press with playing balls into him – he’s holding it up, he’s scoring goals for us.”
