Emirates D20 2022: Match 7 Review- Dubai vs Fujairah
Fujairah and Dubai clashed with each other in what was the seventh match of the tournament. Coming from a big win in their last match, Fujairah were keen to dominate the Dubai team, who had lost their last match.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Dubai team made a strong statement with the bat. From the word go, they put pressure on the Fujairah team. Their opening stand between Shamim Ali and Shrey Sethi added 22 runs in three overs.
The fortunes, however, changed in the fourth over when Shrey Sethi gave his wicket to Saqib Manshad. The next batter Rameez Shahzad came in to bat and made a decent partnership with Ali before wickets fell at regular intervals. Ali was out for 18 and the team had scored 47, at that stage. The next batter, Punya Mehra with 29 off of 29 balls was the last batter to make a significant contribution.
However, regular fall of wickets meant Dubai were able to put a target of 114 on the board. Rohan Mustafa returned with figures of 4-22-3 and Harry Bharwal with 4-17-2. Umair Ali also picked two wickets.
Chasing 115, the Fujairah batters made a slow start. Openers, Muhammad Waseem(c) and Hamdan Tahir (wk) made a slow start with two runs in the first over. The wicketkeeper batter, however, got out the very first over by Shamim Ali.
The Fujairah captain however was on another level altogether. With a knock of 71 off of 47 balls, he hit five boundaries and four sixes to take his team home. Batters Usman Khan (24) and Rohan Mustafa (13*) also made significant contributions to the run chase. Fujairah now sits at the very top with three wins out of three matches. Meanwhile, Dubai languishes at the bottom with three losses and no points.
