According to news sources on Monday, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic organisers plan to add cricket, flag football, lacrosse, and squash, in addition to baseball and softball, to the Games’ schedule.

Although the Los Angeles Times claimed that the sports are expected to be accepted, the proposals of the organisers will be open to final clearance from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), including a session scheduled for Mumbai later this month.

An inquiry for comment has not been immediately answered by the IOC. The Guardian reports that the LA28 organisers plan to release their proposals the following day.

If authorised, squash, lacrosse, and flag football would all make their Olympic debuts. Given the NFL’s immense popularity, flag football is a desirable choice for the U.S.-based Games.

After the phenomenal success of women’s cricket in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, cricket, which has immense worldwide popularity, would make a comeback after first appearing at the 1900 Games. Requests for feedback from the Apex Cricket Council have not immediately come as of now.

Baseball has also been a component of numerous previous Games. Although, it was reinstated in Tokyo 2020 after being dropped in 2012 and 2016, however, it is not going to be an event of the Paris Games.

“I’d like to thank LA28 for their support during the new sport evaluation process”: Greg Barclay

Apex Cricket Council chairman Greg Barclay speaks about how the council is delighted. He adds that he hopes that the sport will be there in the Olympics.

He said, “We are delighted that LA28 have recommended cricket for inclusion in the Olympics. Whilst this is not the final decision, it is a very significant landmark towards seeing cricket at the Olympics for the first time in more than a century. I’d like to thank LA28 for their support during the new sport evaluation process over the last two years and we look forward to the final decision being taken at the IOC Session, in India, during the Men’s Cricket World Cup next week.”
