The Ashes 2023
‘Ek dum sahi bola Finch bhai ne’ – Fans react to Aaron Finch’s bold statement after Australia retained the Ashes urn
The Ashes urn will remain with Australia after a draw in the fourth Test in Manchester
When the Pat Cummins-led squad won the Ashes after the fourth Test ended in a draw, the former Australian skipper Aaron Finch viciously mocked England legends for being whiners. The hosts were ahead, but two days of nonstop rain saved the Australian team.
Unhappy with the result, Michael Vaughan, along with other English icons, even criticised the weather. Nevertheless, English players were at fault for failing to end games when necessary. During the first Test, Ben Stokes unleashed a suicide declaration that caused England to lose. During the second match at Lord’s, the England captain was short of partners. He would have been able to deliver the win in the second test if he had a good partner at the other end.
The batsmen for England disappointed in the first two Test matches. Finch, meanwhile, didn’t agree with the reasoning and ridiculed former cricket players. The former Australian skipper took to Twitter to come out in support of his country as he tweeted, “Apologies… Pat and the team had control over the weather ??”
“I think what we’ve managed to do has already done wonders”: Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes, the captain of England, asserted that his squad is going to be “a team people will remember” in spite of not taking home the Ashes. Since Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum teamed up last year to supervise a transformation in the squad’s attitude to red-ball cricket, putting their focus firmly on delighting the paying public, this was the nation’s first draw in 17 Test matches.
Ben Stokes spoke to the reporters after the fourth Ashes test. He said, “It’s a tough one to take, a tough pill to swallow. But I think what we’ve managed to do has already done wonders for cricket in England. I said in the dressing room that the reward for your work isn’t what you get, it’s what you become.”
The final test at the Oval is only a few days away and both teams still have something to play for and would want to finish the series with a win in their bag. A win for Australia would mean the first Ashes series win in England after a long while.

Apologies… Pat and the team had control over the weather ?? https://t.co/7H6UlwRP0y

England were arrogant enough to think all they had to do to win was turn up. Australia proved them wrong and sadly for them the weather did the rest.

As much as I wanted Bazball to succeed because of McCullum and Stokes leadership, I want Aus to blast them in the 5th Test because of the English antics of being sorest possible losers on the planet in fairly played games and regarding fairly made decisions going against them

Aww finchyy good one.
Also It would be awesome if the last day wasn't wasted out and we got the draw but anyways the first two test were awesome and clearly indicates Australia deserves to win. Some clowns just need a chance to hate pat but who cares.!— Aditi? (@Sev_Khamani) July 24, 2023

Retaining the Ashes due to a washout is a somewhat hollow feeling, kind of like winning a World Cup due to an overthrow deflection… We’ll take it ?

Big England fan here, but if the Lions hadn’t bottled it in the first test they wouldn’t have to worry about the weather, and would go to the oval only needing a draw there to get the Ashes back.

AUSSIES have retained Ashes because of winning first two test matches nit because a draw in the 4th one … would have been interesting of the match was fully done but team who won world cup with luck can't complain

Didn't see them saying how unjust it was that Australia throughout the series got the worst of the batting and bowling conditions and losing four tosses

They were happy to accept the trophy in 2019 under more ridiculous circumstances than weather?
— Purple Herring (@PurpleHerring1) July 24, 2023
Same weather has saved them as well at times. But they chose to cry when it's gone against them this time????

It would be very interesting if Australia comes out winning/drawing the last test?

Australia didnt retain the Ashes because of rains, they did because they won the first 2 tests ? What cry babies!
