Legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has urged fans not to use Tobacco products as they are harmful to one’s health. He was speaking during an event of Swachh Mukh Abhiyan organized by the Maharashtra Government. Tendulkar is the “Smile Ambassador” for the event. Meanwhile, during the event on World Tobacco Day (May 31), the 2011 World Cup winner mentioned that he got a lot of advertisements to promote them.
“When I started playing for India, I had just come out of school. I started getting many advertisement offers but my father told me never to promote tobacco products. I got many such offers but never accepted any of them,” the 50-year-old said.
The Mumbaikar emphasized that Oral Health is good overall health and how he became disciplined towards the game in his teenage days.
“Good oral health is good overall health,” Mr Tendulkar added.
“I used to play a lot as a child, but as fascinated by cricket. As I grew older, I became more aware about the need to be disciplined about my fitness since I realised that it won’t be possible to achieve your goals if you are not fit,” said the former cricketer.
Fifty percent of children have Oral Diseases: Sachin Tendulkar
The right-hander further added that almost half of the children have oral disease which might shatter their confidence.
“Fifty per cent of the children have oral diseases, and it impacts their life. But nobody is bothered about it. Such a thing can damage their confidence,” he added.
On the other hand, doctors also expressed their concerns about cricketers and movie stars promoting Tobacco products.
“Movies and cricket are widely followed in the Indian subcontinent. People of all ages are watching IPL matches, and movies of all languages, thanks to OTT platforms. If any of the movie stars or cricket players promote a product, naturally the impact will be there on adolescents and youth,” said Dr Mahesh Gudelli, Consultant – Clinical and Interventional Pulmonologist, KIMS Hospitals.
This is how Twitter reacted
Sachin Tendulkar has always maintained the same integrity throughout his career. Not only on the field but off the field as well. It's his unpretentious nature and the perspicuity which makes him closer to so many cricket fans. A true legend of the game.

Shame how even Kapil dev being a role model at this age is promoting it. Capitalism and these marketing agencies will make everyone slowly get addicted to alcohol, smoking and tobacco.
