Bangladesh vs India 2022
Dinesh Karthik points out two major reasons behind India’s defeat against Bangladesh in the first ODI
The loss against Bangladesh in the first One-Day International of the bilateral series has not gone well amongst the Indian Cricket Team supporters. Not only the batting collapse, but the poor fielding cost India the game.
Batting first against Bangladesh, India scored 186 in 41.2 overs. KL Rahul top-scored for India with his valuable 73 runs from 70 deliveries. However, the score wasn’t enough as Bangladesh chased down the target with a wicket in hand.
Indian bowlers toiled hard to restrict Bangladesh and were successful in taking wickets at regular intervals. At one point, India were a wicket away from winning the first One-Day international. However, a sensational knock from Mehidy Hasan took the game away from the Blues.
The first-innings hero, KL Rahul, became a villain after he dropped a regulation catch when Bangladesh needed 32 runs. The social media went bonkers post the loss. However, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik picked out the reasons why India’s lost the game on Sunday. He blamed KL Rahul and Washington Sundar’s lackluster effort on the field for helping Bangladesh win the game. Karthik believed that Washington Sundar should have claimed the catch as he was closer to the delivery than KL Rahul initially.
“Obviously KL Rahul’s drop towards the end and Sundar not coming, don’t know why he didn’t come in. I don’t know if it was because of the lights, which I wouldn’t know, but if he had seen the ball, he should have gone for it. That’s only a question he can answer.” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.
The Indian wicketkeeper was also critical of overall fielding against Bangladesh in the first One-Day International.
“Overall fielding effort was 50-50. Not the best day, but not the worst day either. I guess in the end, with the pressure, we left some boundaries as well”. the veteran keeper said.
The second ODI is scheduled to be played on 7th December at Sher-e-Bangla stadium. For India, to win the series, they need to win that game.
