In a high-scoring encounter, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, April 17th. Losing the toss and invited to bat first, CSK got off to a poor start as Ruturaj Gaikwad got out cheaply for just 3 runs. However, Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane steadied the ship with some aggressive strokeplay.

Conway scored a magnificent 83 off just 45 balls, smashing 6 fours and 6 sixes. Rahane, on the other hand, made 37 off 20 with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Shivam Dube also played a crucial knock, scoring 52 off 27 with 2 fours and 5 sixes. CSK eventually managed to post a formidable total of 226/6 on the scoreboard.

In reply, RCB got off to a poor start as their skipper Virat Kohli got out cheaply for just 6 runs. However, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell played brilliantly to keep RCB in the hunt. Du Plessis scored 62 off 33 with 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Maxwell smashed 76 off just 36 balls, hitting 3 fours and 8 sixes.

Despite Dinesh Karthik’s late cameo of 28 off 14 with 3 fours and 1 six, RCB eventually fell short by 8 runs. Tushar Deshpande was the pick of the bowlers for CSK, taking 3 wickets, while Matheesha Pathirana also chipped in with 2 wickets.

With this win, CSK moved up to 3rd place on the points table with 6 points from 5 games, while RCB slipped to 7th place with 4 points. Overall, it was a thrilling encounter between two of the top teams in the IPL, with CSK coming out on top in the end.
