‘Deserved humbling’- Twitter gives a brutal reality check after Manchester City thrash Manchester United 6-3 in the Premier League

Manchester City remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League right now.

Manchester City vs Manchester United

The return of the Premier League was highly anticipated by football fans as it was supposed to bring a mouth-watering match between Manchester City and a resurgent Manchester United.

Manchester City have been humbling teams and tearing their defense apart after the addition of mercurial Erling Haaland. Manchester United on the other hand got off to a shocking start but seem to have found their footing recently. Having won four back-to-back matches in the Premier League Manchester United were expected to go toe to toe with the Premier League holders and come up with a competitive match. The game however was anything but competitive!

Playing with their star-studded starting XI, City began the match on the front foot as they moved the ball around United’s penalty area, all while United players looked on. The first goal seemed inevitable as City players controlled the game in the early moments of the game. City probed the edge of the United box before Phil Phoden steered his strike past David De Gea in the 8th minute to open the floodgates at Etihad Stadium.

What followed was a show of strength from Pep Guardiola‘s side that has sent shockwaves throughout the English Premier League.
After the first goal, City doubled the lead in the 34th minute with an Erling Haaland header and went on to add another just three minutes later. Foden also joined in on the fun as he got his brace in the dying embers of the first half to leave the scoreline reading 4-0.

United brought in Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, and Casemiro for the second half in order to stop the flow of goals and it kind of worked. Not before Foden and Haaland clinched their respect hattricks though.

The City attackers clinched their individual hattricks in the second half to leave Erik Ten Hag scratching his head. Two goals from Martial and a worldie from Antony brought three goals in United’s favour but the scoreline (6-3) did not tell the story as it was displayed on the pitch.

It was a humiliating defeat for United who went into this game to show their resurgence. What followed was a reminder that United’s best days are long past and the team would need a major overhaul to compete with their noisy neighbors City, who now rule the Premier League.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Manchester City’s win:
