The fifth and the final T20I match of South Africa’s tour of India ended with a disappointment. The decider, due to be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was washed out due to rain interruption. The South African team had won the first two matches of the series, but the men in blue bounced back to win the next two and level the series. In the end, the trophy was shared by the two teams.

Keshav Maharaj won the toss and went with the obvious choice to bowl first. The match, however, was delayed due to a rain interruption. The previously scheduled match for 7 p.m. began at 7:50 p.m. The game was reduced to 19 overs a side. With the bat, Rishabh Pant’s side did not have a good time in the 3.3 overs that were played in the game.

Lungi Ngidi dismissed India’s openers, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, early on. Kishan scored 15 runs in seven balls, and Gaikwad scored 10 runs in 12 balls. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were in the middle when the rain struck again. The contest was finally abandoned due to the prolonged interruption.

India had a golden chance to win a T20I series against South Africa at home for the first time. Notably, in the shortest format of the game, the host team has a poor record against the Proteas. Rishabh Pant and Co. had a chance to win the five-match T20I series after trailing 2-0 at the start but it wasn’t to be. No other team has ever been able to do so in the T20 format.

In the meantime, fans were disappointed to miss out on all the cricketing action. The spectators who were present at the stadium, in particular, would have wanted to witness the action unfold.

“People in Bengaluru pay to watch rain under the glorious floodlights of Chinnaswamy,” a fan jokingly tweeted.

“Two minutes of silence for whoever went to the stadium to watch the match yesterday,” another fan wrote.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the washout
