‘Delhi is baar halla machayegi’ – Delhi move to top of points table after big win against Mumbai in Women’s T20 League

The Mumbai Franchise have lost their winning ways as they suffered the second consecutive loss in the Women’s T20 League after five back-to-back wins. This time, the Delhi Franchise defeated Mumbai by 9 wickets to register their fifth win of the tournament. However, Mumbai have already secured their place in the top three. While Delhi moved to the first position after a big win.

For the second consecutive time, Mumbai batters seemed to be struggling as they were restricted to 109 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Mumbai has a disastrous start in as they 3 wickets for just 10 runs inside 4 overs. After that, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur added few runs to the team’s total but couldn’t take the innings further. Kaur got out after scoring 23 runs off 26 balls hitting three boundaries.

Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Pooja Vastrakar (26 off 19) and Issa Wong (23 off 24) scored some runs in the end, to take the team’s total beyond 100 runs. Shikha Pandey, Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp scalped 2-2 wickets each for Delhi.

Delhi chased  the winning total with 66 balls remaining

Coming to chase the winning total of 110 runs, Delhi had a firing start as skipper Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma put up an opening partnership of 56 runs in 4.3 overs. Shafali got out after smashing 33 runs off just 15 balls hitting six fours and a maximum.

While Lanning remained unbeaten on 32 off 22 hitting four fours and one six, along with Alice Capsey’s 38 off 17 with one four and five maximums. Delhi chased the winning total in nine overs with 9 wickets remaining. Hayley Matthews was the only wicket-taker for Mumbai

The top three of the tournament have already been decided after UP defeated Gujarat by 3 wickets in the preceding nail-biting match. Gujarat set the target of 179 for UP powered by the half-centuries by Ashleigh Gardner (60 off 39) and Dayalan Hemalatha (57 off 33). UP chased the winning total by losing 7 wickets with one ball remaining. Grace Harris (72 off 41) and Tahil Mcgrath (57 off 38) turned to be the match winners for UP with their knocks. Meanwhile, Bangalore and Gujarat are out of the race of the top three.
