CSK will have to reserve a huge amount for Faf du Plessis, says Ravichandran Ashwin
Faf du Plessis has been a great purchase for Chennai up till 2021. The last two seasons were very impactful for him in the Indian T20 League. In 2021, he was the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, just behind Ruturaj Gaikwad. In 2020, even though Chennai finished at the bottom of the points table, Du Plessis was a consistent performer.Â
He was let go by Chennai ahead of the 2022 season because of the limit of retentions allowed. There is a great chance they will look to buy him back in the upcoming mega auction. Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed his view that Chennai will have to reserve a huge amount of money if they are targeting him in the auction.
He pointed out that teams will be looking out to buy Faf because of his form in the recent seasons. Chennai bought him at a base price of just 1.5 crores, but that will no longer be the case.
“Last time around, CSK stole Faf du Plessis for 1.5 crores. But this time, I don’t see that type of steal happening for him. CSK fans will definitely have him on their wish list. If CSK wants to buy Faf du Plessis this time, they should definitely be ready to spend a lot more than they did last time. Faf du Plessis will have a great demand in my opinion. Faf will be sought after by most teams,†Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin said that David Warner, Quinton de Kock, and Jonny Bairstow along with Faf du Plessis will be the highest sold overseas players. In one of his earlier videos, he opined that Ishan Kishan, Shikhar Dhawan, and Devdutt Padikkal will be the highest sold Indian batters.
Meanwhile, Chennai retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2022 season. Chennai would want to rebuy Faf du Plessis to open the batting along with Ruturaj Gaikwad. The two helped them win the title for the fourth time.
