Cristiano Ronaldo‘s new contract with Al Nassr includes a clause that allows him to play in the Champions League again before his career ends. He joined the Saudi Arabian club last week after failing to find a club in Europe that could meet his high salary demands while also providing the necessary level of competition.

Determined not to be left out of Europe’s main competition, he reportedly has a clause in his contract that allows him to go on loan to Newcastle United if they qualify for the Champions League this season, as they are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

Cristiano Ronaldo holds several Champions League records. With 140 goals, he is the all-time leading scorer in this continental tournament. Lionel Messi is the only player capable of catching him anytime soon. With 129, the recent world champion is only 11 behind the Portuguese and 12 short of surpassing him.

Ronaldo’s contract with Manchester United was terminated during the 2022 Qatar World Cup after he stated in an interview with Piers Morgan that he does not respect United coach Erik ten Hag. He and the club had already been at odds, and the interview was the final straw. United is now looking for a replacement forward.

In the meantime, Ronaldo’s decision to leave United and join a Saudi Arabian club has prompted Jamie Carragher to take another shot at the great forward. “In some ways, it’s a sad end for him. You have two of the greatest players in Messi and Ronaldo, and Ronaldo has finished his career during an interview with Piers Morgan and Messi has won the World Cup. It’s not the best way to go out,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

The vision of what Al-Nassr are doing and developing in Saudi Arabia is very inspiring: Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo recently commented on his transfer to Al-Nassr. The Portuguese superstar stated that he is impressed by the club’s vision and is excited to join the squad. The vision of what Al-Nassr are doing and developing in Saudi Arabia, both in terms of men’s and women’s football is very inspiring. We can see from Saudi Arabia’s recent performance at the World Cup that this is a country with big football ambitions and a lot of potential,” he said.
